AAA Skills Check List

The AAA Division is the midway point in what we hope to be a fun-filled 10-year experience in the BGCRE Softball program. It is the transition stage for our players. The goal at this level is to help our players begin to feel comfortable as practical recreational players, and hopefully develop the skills and desire necessary to move on to our Majors division and beyond. Most importantly, we want each girl to have grown both and a player and a teammate.

At completion of our AAA Division, a BGCRE Softball player should possess an understanding of most aspects of the sport, including how to prepare for practices and games, how to execute drills, a working knowledge of the key rules of the game, skills at multiple positions, a basic understanding of the execution of offensive and defensive, and most importantly an enjoyment of the game, which allows our girls to compete at the best of their abilities, while displaying sportsmanship on and off the field.

By the end of the season, we want our AAA Players to be able to:

-- Recognize balls versus strikes while at bat … and swing at strikes.
 --
Be comfortable approaching each at-bat, whether coach- or player-pitched
 --
Field a ball and make an accurate throw to first base from the shortstop position.
 --
Move to and catch a short fly ball thrown by a coach.
 --
As a catcher, execute the basic responsibilities of the position, including blocking passed balls, making throws to appropriate bases, and covering home plate.
 --
As a pitcher, execute the basics of a proper pitching motion.
 --
Understand and execute basic softball training drills both on and off the field.
 --
Understand coaching strategies and offensive/defensive signals.
 --
Honor the game with respect for Rules, Opponents, Officials, Teammates, and Self (ROOTS).
 --
End the season having enjoyed the experience on the team and looking forward to next season.
