REDDING-EASTON FALCONS
Middle School Team Q&A

Who is invited to the tryout on March 20?
All girls in 5th through 8th grade who reside in Redding or Easton are welcome to try out for the Redding-Easton Falcons. Please be sure to register. Just click REGISTER ONLINE in the left hand column of this page.

Why is RESB asking for $10 just to tryout?
Reserving the required indoor space to conduct a proper tryout during the winter is expensive. Collecting $10 from each participant will help defray this cost. Regardless, it will be fun to play ball on the turf for 2 hours. Well worth $10 per player.

Who will evaluate and select the team?
Ron Uzwiak is the head coach of the Redding-Easton Falcons, and he will evaluate and select the team.

Is Ron Uzwiak an experienced coach?
Yes! Coach Uzwiak has more than 11 years of coaching experience at all levels of youth softball – from t-ball through competitive travel ball – including Joel Barlow High School Fall Ball teams, 16U Southington Lightning, 16U Ridgefield Rebels, and various Redding-Easton in-house, all-star and travel teams. He was also a founding member of the Redding-Easton Softball committee and was among the first coaches to bring both towns together with his Easton-Redding “Fusion” teams years ago. His coaching philosophy focuses on fun, skills development and creating a strong sense of TEAM.

If my daughter is selected for the middle school team, how much will it cost?
The cost for each player selected to the team has yet to be determined, but the fee will range from $175 to $200. The player fee will contribute to covering insurance, field maintenance, umpires, basic team equipment, and one full uniform set: jersey, pants, belt, socks.

If my daughter is selected for the middle school team, will it conflict with her travel ball and/or in-house schedule?
The middle school team schedule will be designed not to conflict with travel or rec in-house schedules. Middle school team activities will be limited to three days during the week – no weekends – which avoids overlap with weekend travel ball tournaments and the vast majority of spring rec league activities. Also, the middle school team is meant to be an after school program, while most evening rec programs don’t start until 5:30 PM or 6:00 PM. Certainly, there may be conflicts and coordination will be challenging. However, with the RESB Falcons, the RESB Spring Rec League and the Connecticut Rockets working together, all teams under the BGCRE and RESB will coordinate as much as possible.

When and where will games and practices be played?
Coach Uzwiak is working to develop the game schedule. We hope to have games with other middle school teams from surrounding towns and other parts of Fairfield County, including Bethel, Newtown, Danbury, etc. The team’s home field will be at the Boys & Girls Club of Redding-Easton, and the practices will be held at the BGCRE in Redding, and Pond and Vets fields in Easton. Specific start times are TBD.

When will the season start? When will it end?
Once the team is selected, outdoor practices and games will start in April as soon as fields are playable. We may also schedule indoor workouts. The middle school season will end no later than the first week of June.
